The Eight of Pentacles shows a master at work on his workbench. Beside him hang beautifully crafted Pentacles that he has been working on.
The Eight of Pentacles is all about working hard and really enjoying the work. It is a blessing to have a job where one has the opportunity to practice the occupation one likes. Work then becomes a joyful experience wherein the pursuit of excellence becomes an all-consuming goal.
The bread and butter that the labor brings in therefore is no longer the primary aim but becomes a bonus. We see a master craftsman at work, lovingly shaping the pentacles which he proudly showcases in his workshop. His workshop has been staged at a distance from the city behind him since it keeps him insulated. This means that he is a journeyman and hence has worked his way up to the top. He is at liberty to choose the work he does and leave whatever does not fit in with his personal or professional policy.
On a negative note, his work could be isolating him by keeping him busy to the exclusion of all else.
The yellow brick road connects him to the city! The work he does definitely benefits them and for that they are grateful. He on the other hand is also grateful since the work he does with joy, connects him to the village and thus gives it purpose.
When you draw the Eight Of Pentacles, it means that you have been working very hard. However, the hours that you have been clocking are not just productive but also filled with contentment. Your work gives you a sense of purpose that makes you feel that you are reaching beyond your existence and making a connection with something bigger than yourself.
Sometimes the Eight of Pentacles can also turn up if you are in a job where things have become routine that you can switch off mentally and yet accomplish everything. The Eight Of Pentacles may turn up when you have been investing your time into a hobby and that hobby has been honed to perfection. It reminds you that you could use this hobby as a viable source of income and switch your occupation. You are regarded as successful in the eyes of your peers. Claim your spot!!
Meditation on Eight of Pentacles
“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.”
“If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, go out and sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures. Sweep streets like Handel and Beethoven composed music. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.”
- What is the Pentacle that you are crafting?
- How much joy and contentment does your job give you?
- If job satisfaction is not there, what could you do?
- The fact that you have drawn the Eight of Pentacles, insists that you have a hobby that you could use as a profession? What may that be?
