“Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.”
― Khalil Gibran, The Prophet.
The Two of Cups shows us a couple who stand next to each other and do not drink from one cup. They each are independent and bring something to the table. The essential part is that they choose to be with each other and to get to know each other while being completely self-sufficient. That is the only manner in which a relationship is sacred. The two people are not with each other because of need or fear or dependence, but choose to be with each other for love.
In the background, we see the home that is shown in the card of the Ten Of Cups which implies that they have the potential of a future together with children in it.
The Staff of Hermes lies between them as this card is ruled by Mercury the winged messenger of the gods, who rules communication. This is very telling of how to maximize the potential. Good communication is the key to relationships.
Seeing the Two of Cups is a sign that you may be in a relationship soon. If you are already in a relationship this reminds you that communication is an ongoing process and that every relationship needs to be renewed along with that first spark that had started it. This card encapsulated that feeling which emerges at the beginning of a relationship. This is that phase when one is literally walking on air and in love, and keeps up thinking about the other person.
The Lion represents carnal desires and ego. This is a time when one has possibly not given into carnality.
This card today reminds you that you do have people in your life who are your kindred spirits. The Two of Cups above all is a friendship with communication, with the potential to grow into something that could last a lifetime.
It is a blessing to have people in our lives that we connect with and this card reminds you to be grateful and give gratitude to the universe for that connection. It is also essential that you do communicate that gratitude to that special person in your life.
